Michael Banks Mixed Media 15x14 "Yellow Beak Messenger" Assemblage WP6284

This vibrant bird assemblage by Alabama outsider artist Michael Banks is constructed entirely from reclaimed wood and salvaged materials. Layered and assembled from individual pieces of painted wood, the bird emerges from a weathered backing board, creating both visual depth and sculptural presence. Bright yellows, reds, blacks, and blues combine with Banks' signature carved and incised line work to bring the figure to life.

Using a dremel to cut and etch details into the reclaimed wood, Banks transforms discarded materials into a lively contemporary folk-art composition. The exaggerated beak, expressive eye, and geometric feather patterns give the bird both personality and movement. Equal parts sculpture and painting, this work reflects the artist's ability to find beauty and narrative in ordinary materials while honoring the traditions of Southern folk and outsider art.

The piece is 15" wide and 14.5" long. The bird is 2.5" thick
