Rob Withrow

Rob Withrow is a contemporary North Carolina folk potter based in Brasstown, North Carolina, where he operates Smoke in the Mountains Pottery near the renowned John C. Campbell Folk School. Known for his energetic personality and deep commitment to traditional Appalachian pottery, Withrow has spent decades creating high-fired stoneware that bridges functional pottery and Southern folk art traditions.

Collectors are particularly drawn to Withrow’s expressive face mugs, face jugs, large storage vessels, and monumental pottery forms. He is widely recognized for pushing scale beyond what many traditional potters attempt, producing exceptionally large face jugs and oversized stoneware vessels, some reaching several feet in height.
