Melissa Kniceley

“Talking Mud” isn’t the name of a historical pottery movement but refers to the Talking Mud Pottery studio in Shelby, NC. Melissa and Jeff Kniceley have practiced the art of wood fired pottery making for over 20 years. From their small studio, they create functional and utilitarian pieces with Melissa creating pieces that are described as traditional yet having a unique contemporary and organic touch. 

Talking Mud Pottery is deeply influenced by the long-standing pottery traditions of North Carolina, such as those in Seagrove and the Catawba Valley.
