Jarrod Turner is a folk artist in the Columbus, Georgia, art community who signs his work **J Turner**. After years of playing in bands, he turned his attention to visual art following a visit to Howard Finster’s Paradise Garden in Summerville, Georgia. The next day, while walking his dog, he found a discarded piece of wood and brought it home to paint a snake. By the time he shared that story in a 2023 interview, he had made more than 200 pieces.
The work is unapologetic in its originality, while giving homage to the greats who inspired him. Pieces are raw, bold, and even whimsical. From repainted thrifted frames to found object lampshades, and fragment of disregarded is not beyond his reinterpretation. The multi eyed figures, devil horns, angel halos and slogan, “folk art brings us together,” tries to speak yo a southern heart.
