Michael Banks is an artist from Alabama who knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to be an artist. A self-taught painter, Michael abandoned tradition on many levels and, in the process, succeeded in achieving a place in the wider world of contemporary American art.

This mixed media assemblage presents with bold color, distressed textures and reclaimed materials. The piece is 11" wide and about 17.5" long and 5.5" thick. The carving feels protective but also tattered; like a guardian that's been through a lot.  This may be a guardian who watches over small spaces and quiet moments.
