You Are Here is a hand-built ceramic sculpture that merges globe imagery with a grenade form to create a sharp visual metaphor. A painted Earth sits within the structure, while a sculpted grenade top and pull ring introduce tension. A raised banner reads “YOU ARE HERE,” directing the viewer’s attention with pointed clarity.

Kiln-fired and finished in layered glaze, the piece contrasts soft planetary imagery with the hard symbolism of explosive force. The flowing red banner wraps the form, adding movement and reinforcing the message.

As with much of Hetherington’s work, the sculpture uses humor and bold symbolism to reflect on global anxiety, personal responsibility, and the fragile state of things. The message is direct, but open to interpretation.
