Good is a hand-built ceramic sculpture featuring a bright yellow duck perched atop a simple bottle form. The clean white base is interrupted by a raised blue plaque reading “GOOD,” giving the piece its title and tone.

Kiln-fired and finished in glossy glaze, the exaggerated cartoon-like duck contrasts with the straightforward vessel beneath it. The wide eyes and open beak create an expression that feels both innocent and slightly absurd.

As with much of Hetherington’s work, the piece uses humor and simplicity to explore language and labeling. By pairing a common word with an almost childlike symbol, the sculpture quietly questions how easily we define things as “good” without deeper thought.
