Tim Whitten 8.5" Open Mouth and Bewildered Face Jug DP6145

Tim Whitten is a self taught potter (now living in AL) who began by making functional wares like bowls and birdhouses in 2010 before quickly making a shift to face jug pottery. Many of his pieces draw inspiration from traditional American folk pottery with an emphasis on face jug pottery.

This expressive face jug features an elongated bottle-form body crowned by a deeply sculpted face with a dramatic open mouth and exaggerated teeth. The surface is layered with flowing earth-tone glazes that settle into the carved textures, emphasizing every wrinkle, crease, and contour. A small side handle adds to the utilitarian bottle reference while the distorted facial features push the piece firmly into the realm of contemporary folk art. Whitten’s work balances humor, unease, and craftsmanship, creating a face jug that feels both animated and ancient.

This piece is 8.5" tall, about 6" wide and 3.75" base.
