Tim Whitten 6" Oh What a Night Face Jug DP6147
Tim Whitten is a self taught potter (now living in AL) who began by making functional wares like bowls and birdhouses in 2010 before quickly making a shift to face jug pottery. Many of his pieces draw inspiration from traditional American folk pottery with an emphasis on face jug pottery.
This highly animated face jug combines exaggerated features with an almost carnival-like grin. The pale glaze is accented by dramatic red around the eyes, drawing immediate focus to the jug’s wide expression and oversized teeth. Built on a traditional handled jug form, the piece merges classic Southern face jug influences with Whitten’s own playful and theatrical sculptural approach. The speckled clay body and hand-worked details give the piece strong visual texture while maintaining the spontaneity associated with contemporary folk pottery.
This piece is 6" tall, about 4.5" wide and 2.5" base.
