Michael Gates 3.5" Mini Signature Jug DP6449 SOLD

Bold black linework gives this Michael Gates jug an immediate graphic presence. Gates uses the traditional rounded jug form as a canvas for an exaggerated human face, with wide circular eyes, arched brows, a prominent nose, ears, and a large outlined mouth containing the characters “G8S” (Gates). Black-painted hair wraps around the head and extends across the back, contrasting dramatically with the natural clay body.

Incised marks visible beneath and through the dark surface treatment emphasize the handmade character of the piece. The jug combines the familiar vocabulary of Southern face pottery with Gates’ loose, contemporary drawing style.

This mini piece is 3.5" tall, with a 2" base.
