Greg Patton 2" Edgefield Inspired Mini Face Jug DP6050

Greg's work is inspired by the decorated stoneware and face jugs of 19th-century Edgefield, SC pottery. He works with traditional elements of this style, including ash glazes and slip decoration. Greg also draws ideas from the tradition of pottery throughout the Southeast, incorporating and reinterpreting old themes to create a mixed body of work.

This miniature face jug distills the expressive qualities of larger Southern face vessels into a highly compact form. Despite its scale, the piece retains bold facial features—raised eyes, a defined mouth, and sculpted cheeks—executed with clarity and precision. Finished in a dark, glossy glaze, the jug carries a strong visual presence, while the handwritten “Patton” signature adds a personal, studio-made quality. The reverse includes a simple decorative motif, reinforcing its identity as both object and artifact. Small in size but rich in character, this miniature serves as an accessible entry point for collectors, or as a complementary piece within a broader face jug or Southern folk pottery collection.
