Feliciano Abaurre 25" wood Fired Antler Sculptural Face DP6014

Feliciano Abaurre's work is the result of multiple esthetic and functional influences, from South America to Japan, Africa and the US , British and Indian pottery, always playing with the connection of clay and farm, utilitary ware for fermentation and storage.

This dramatic 25-inch wood-fired sculptural jug pushes the traditional Southern face jug into bold, mythic territory. Handbuilt in stoneware and fired in a wood kiln, the vessel features an expressive horned figure crowned with branching antlers, giving the piece a powerful totemic presence. The animated face—with wide eyes, protruding teeth, and sculpted spikes—emerges from a richly textured surface carrying the warm, atmospheric markings typical of wood firing. The tall jug stands on tripod-like legs, transforming the vessel into a creature-like form that feels both ancient and playful. Natural ash deposits and flame flashing from the kiln create subtle variations across the dark earthen surface, enhancing the organic character of the piece. Additional sculptural details—ears, horns, and small relief elements—reinforce Abaurre’s imaginative approach to contemporary folk ceramics.

Blending Southern face jug traditions with fantasy, ritual imagery, and wood-fire aesthetics, this large sculptural vessel is a standout example of Abaurre’s distinctive voice in contemporary ceramic art. At 25 inches tall, it commands attention and makes a striking centerpiece for collectors of Southern pottery, outsider art, and sculptural ceramics.

This piece is 25" tall.  12" across the antlers, 11" between the feet.
