Feliciano Abaurre's work is the result of multiple esthetic and functional influences, from South America to Japan, Africa and the US , British and Indian pottery, always playing with the connection of clay and farm, utilitary ware for fermentation and storage.
This dynamic jug showcases the artist’s inventive approach to form, surface, and narrative within contemporary Southern ceramics. Handbuilt in stoneware, the vessel features a striking stacked composition of multiple expressive faces cascading down the front—each with open mouths and exaggerated features that create a rhythmic, almost totemic vertical flow. The surface is richly layered with contrasting textures and glazes. A combination of patterned, tactile slip work and high-gloss color fields in red, green, and yellow creates a bold visual interplay between matte and shine. The dotted and linear surface detailing adds depth and movement, while the bright, segmented glaze areas wrap the form, reinforcing its sculptural presence from every angle. At 18 inches tall, this work is substantial yet versatile—equally suited for display as a focal point in a collection of Southern pottery, outsider art, or contemporary ceramic sculpture. It stands out for its complexity, color, and unmistakable individuality.
This piece is 18" tall and about 11" wide.
