Michael Banks 12x24 "Earthbound Angel" Winged Figure Assemblage WP6419

Michael Banks transforms salvaged wood and discarded materials into a wonderfully unconventional winged figure in this dimensional folk-art assemblage. An elongated figure dressed in red and pale pink stands against a warm yellow background, flanked by a pair of individually constructed white wings. Banks’ signature carved and incised lines cover the figure and wings, adding graphic detail to the rough, weathered surfaces.

The work is surrounded by reclaimed wood elements painted a vivid red, becoming an integral part of the assemblage rather than simply a frame. Exposed screws, uneven edges, layered wood, and traces of the materials’ previous lives are intentionally left visible, reinforcing Banks’ resourceful approach to art making. Both solemn and whimsical, the figure has the presence of a contemporary folk-art angel fashioned from things that might otherwise have been discarded.
