Steve Abee 7" Devil Face Jug DP6189

A powerful example of traditional Southern pottery, this devil face jug by Steve Abee features sharply defined horns, looped side handles, exaggerated facial carving, and a commanding expression. Finished in a deep black alkaline glaze, the jug draws from the historic face jug tradition of North Carolina’s Catawba Valley while emphasizing Abee’s confident sculptural voice.

Created using historic 19th-century pottery methods preserved and passed down by Burlon Craig, Abee’s work has become increasingly sought after by collectors of Southern folk pottery. The dramatic profile, textured surface, and expressive features make this an especially compelling piece for collectors of contemporary folk art and traditional North Carolina pottery.

This piece is 7" tall, 3.25" base and 7" wide. While outside taking photos outside in the sun, I noted that there are undertones of deep blue. They seemed to disappear once inside.
