This striking devil face jug was created by acclaimed Southern folk potter Michel Bayne during his North Carolina period and bears his desirable "BM NC" mark. Standing 12 inches tall, the jug features an expressive horned devil face with exaggerated brows, prominent ears, a sweeping mustache, beard, and individually applied porcelain teeth.

Bayne's rich alkaline glaze cascades over the stoneware surface in shades of caramel, brown, and deep chocolate, highlighting the sculptural details and giving the piece exceptional depth and character. Drawing inspiration from the historic face jug traditions of North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, Bayne transforms a functional pottery form into a powerful work of contemporary Southern folk art.
