Jackie Apessos 8.5" I Have an Idea Guy DP6337
After a couple of local classes to learn some basics, Jackie Apessos taught herself everything else from there. Some work is thrown on the wheel and then hand sculpted, while other pieces are completely built by hand. Almost everything has a face. Because of significant challenges with her vision, she works mostly with smaller pieces, as she needs to hold them in her hand under intense light, and work the clay using shadows as her guide. Jackie derives so much joy when working with clay. Oh, and she loves to collect and make creepy faces.
This imaginative face jug showcases the artist's signature blend of folk art tradition, humor and whimsical storytelling. The jug features an expressive face with bright blue eyes, exaggerated features, and a wide toothy grin that gives the piece a lively and unforgettable personality. Finished in a richly layered blue-green glaze with subtle variations throughout, the surface highlights the hand-sculpted details and character-filled expression.
The removable stopper is sculpted as a classic light bulb, adding an unexpected and playful element to the design. Whether interpreted as a symbol of creativity, inspiration, or simply humor, the light bulb complements the animated expression of the jug and reinforces Apessos' unique artistic vision. Handcrafted and one-of-a-kind, this piece is a wonderful example of contemporary folk art pottery and collectible face jug tradition.
