Jackie Apessos 7" Midnight Trickster Face Jug DP6038 SOLD
After a couple of local classes to learn some basics, Jackie Apessos taught herself everything else from there. Some work is thrown on the wheel and then hand sculpted, while other pieces are completely built by hand. Almost everything has a face. Because of significant challenges with her vision, she works mostly with smaller pieces, as she needs to hold them in her hand under intense light, and work the clay using shadows as her guide. Jackie derives so much joy when working with clay. Oh, and she loves to collect and make creepy faces.
Glazed in a rich, dark blue that catches highlights across its surface, this face jug features pointed ears and a sly, knowing grin. The angular features and sharp teeth lend the piece a slightly mischievous energy—part devil, part storyteller. Apessos balances exaggerated facial features with a well-proportioned jug form, creating a work that is both sculptural and rooted in the traditions of Southern face-jug pottery. This one is 4.75" tall, about 4" wide and has a 3.5" base.
Ships with tracking and insurance for $14. Pottery does not ship outside the continental USA.
