Jackie Apessos 6" The Long Smail Face Jug DP6037

After a couple of local classes to learn some basics, Jackie Apessos taught herself everything else from there.  Some work is thrown on the wheel and then hand sculpted, while other pieces are completely built by hand.  Almost everything has a face. Because of significant challenges with her vision, she works mostly with smaller pieces, as she needs to hold them in her hand under intense light, and work the clay using shadows as her guide.  Jackie derives so much joy when working with clay.  Oh, and she loves to collect and make creepy faces.

A broad, stretched grin wraps around the surface of this turquoise face jug, creating an almost Cheshire-like expression. Narrowed eyes and sculpted brows give the piece a sly personality, while the elongated smile adds humor and movement to the form. The soft aqua glaze, accented by natural kiln variation, reinforces the organic handmade character of the piece. A sweeping handle and traditional jug profile anchor the work within the folk pottery tradition. This one is 6" tall, about 7.5" wide and has a 4" base.
