Jackie Apessos 6.75" Grinning Cat Face Jug w/Bird Stopper DP6335
After a couple of local classes to learn some basics, Jackie Apessos taught herself everything else from there. Some work is thrown on the wheel and then hand sculpted, while other pieces are completely built by hand. Almost everything has a face. Because of significant challenges with her vision, she works mostly with smaller pieces, as she needs to hold them in her hand under intense light, and work the clay using shadows as her guide. Jackie derives so much joy when working with clay. Oh, and she loves to collect and make creepy faces.
This delightful two-piece folk art face jug features a broad-grinning cat whose mischievous smile stretches from ear to ear. Finished in a rich turquoise-green glaze with subtle earthy highlights, the vessel combines humor, personality, and craftsmanship in equal measure. The removable stopper is sculpted as a perched bird, creating a playful interaction between cat and bird adding narrative charm to the piece.
Hand-built and richly textured, the jug showcases Apessos' signature style of transforming traditional pottery forms into expressive characters. Whether displayed in a collection of Southern folk pottery, whimsical animal art, or contemporary face jugs, this unique piece is certain to spark conversation and smiles.
