Jackie Apessos 6.25" Grinning Cat Face Jug w/Fish Stopper DP6336 SOLD
After a couple of local classes to learn some basics, Jackie Apessos taught herself everything else from there. Some work is thrown on the wheel and then hand sculpted, while other pieces are completely built by hand. Almost everything has a face. Because of significant challenges with her vision, she works mostly with smaller pieces, as she needs to hold them in her hand under intense light, and work the clay using shadows as her guide. Jackie derives so much joy when working with clay. Oh, and she loves to collect and make creepy faces.
This smile inducing face jug features a wide-grinning cat rendered in her unmistakable folk art style. Finished in layered shades of blue-green glaze, the jug showcases expressive almond-shaped eyes, a long sculpted nose, and a toothy smile that gives the piece a playful personality. Topping it off is a removable fish-form stopper, adding an extra touch of humor and storytelling.
Handcrafted with sculptural detail on all sides, the vessel combines traditional face jug influences with Apessos' imaginative approach to character pottery. The result is a one-of-a-kind ceramic artwork that bridges folk art, functional pottery, and contemporary sculpture. Whether displayed as part of a face jug collection or enjoyed as a standalone statement piece, this cat and fish pairing brings charm and character to any setting.
