Billy Joe Craven 9.75" Blue Rooster Figural DP6066 SOLD

From one of the oldest potting families in the South, Billy Joe is a descendant of Peter Craven, who set up a pottery business in North Carolina as early as 1760. Billy Joe learned to turn from members of the Hewell family and is now a leading producer of unglazed gardenware in the region. While Craven Pottery continues to produce outdoor decorative and functional pottery, Billy Joe finds time to continue the tradition of creating face jugs in his own unmistakable style.

A vibrant rooster-form jug by Billy Joe Craven, combining traditional pottery structure with animated folk imagery. The form rises into a proud, upright stance with a sharply defined comb, wattles, and tail, all highlighted in bold red, yellow, and deep blue glazes. Rooster imagery is deeply tied to Southern pottery traditions, often symbolizing rural life and regional identity. Craven’s interpretation brings a lively, almost celebratory energy to the form, making this both a functional vessel and a standout sculptural object.

This piece is 9.75" tall, about 7.5" wide, and has a 3.75" base.

Ships for $20. Because of the high shipping cost, pottery does not ship outside the continental USA.
