Michael Banks is an artist from Alabama who knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to be an artist. A self-taught painter, Michael abandoned tradition on many levels and, in the process, succeeded in achieving a place in the wider world of contemporary American art.

Despite the rough edges and distressed surfaces, the composition radiates a sense of calm resolve. The figure is built from fractured surfaces, layered pigments, and scraped surfaces. The body is patched, weathered and reimagined. The piece is 7" wide and about 25.5" long and .5" thick.
