Jason Luck 7" Face Jug DP2349

The Luck family began in the pottery industry roughly 150 years ago (right after the Civil War), though the family has links to the Cole and Craven families, who began their work in the 1700s.
Jason Luck is the sixth generation of Lucks to make pottery. He (and his brother, Matthew Luck) began at the wheel at the age of ten, and was taught by his father (Sid Luck) and grandfather (James Luck) how to make the traditional functional ware that the family had made for generations. Perhaps inspired by his work with the storied J.B. Cole Pottery, Jason’s father began producing more decorative colors and shapes in the late 1980s. Jason has tried to stay the course set by his father by continuing to produce the traditional shapes, but also adding some contemporary flair.
Jason’s work can be seen in collections around the country from the North Carolina Museum of History to the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe. He has appeared on UNC-TV, SC ETV Radio, and other media.
