Yardbirds

Yardbirds photoMy medium is metal sculpture. I use mostly scrap and recycled parts to create my metal birds, critters, dogs, and cats. Some of the materials I use include garden tools, car parts, farm implements, bicycle parts, and mufflers. I think that Yardbirds® are a great way to contribute to the good of the environment; they save rejected metal parts from ending up in a landfill and they beautify homes and yards everywhere!

Dad and I created the first Yardbird in August of 1991 in Jamestown, Kentucky. Dad has spent most of his career making things from metal. The first bird came about from our talking about and tinkering with scrap materials. People instantly loved them!

I am a graduate of the University of Kentucky, a lifelong resident of Kentucky, and a juried member of the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program and the American Craft Council. - Richard Kolb
