Justine Ferreri
I was born in in Irumagawa, Japan, but consider myself from North Carolina having lived here half my life. I reside on a salt marsh with my husband Guy, one huge dog Oscar, and lots of wildlife in the rural backwoods.
Never having taken art classes, most of my first works were learning disasters, but after much trial and error, my work started to progress. My beginning works had a primitive, childlike quality that I sometimes feel I lose as I hone my craft. I’m always taking steps backward to go forward.
I have been working full-time as a sculptor for eight years creating glazed earthenware. Many are embellished with wire, beading and found objects. Vivid color, whimsical, humorous, spiritual. One-of-a-kind, handmade earthenware sculptures. No molds used. Some pieces are glazed three-four times to achieve intensity of color. Many pieces have spiritual messages or express light and whimsical humor. Sizes and color vary for each one is individual.
