Greenville Remembered

I created this category for those who might have visited our city and forgot to take something back home for the family. Alternately, it's for someone who has lived or spent time in Greenville, and now lives in another part of the country and would like to have a little remembrance of home. This category holds items that you will be happy to display, and hopefully bring a happy thought to mind.
  • Eugene Liberty Bridge Mug DP1088

Each individual piece created by Winton and Rosa Eugene carries a message about the cherished heritage from which these two artists have come. Whether reflecting on the past or exploring a concept such as dignity and pride, their works cause the viewer to be captured by the artists’ remarkable ability to speak through the clay medium. Their works evoke imagery and memories from a past shared by African-Americans and Caucasians alike. Their messages reveal a universal ancestry of man. Their work has been featured in museums and art galleries across the south and as far away as Germany and China. Their larger "story" pieces are prized by collectors.

This mug is exclusive to the gallery, thanks to Winton and Rosa. It depicts our local attraction, The Liberty Bridge which is a pedestrian suspension bridge that reaches across the Reedy River. It (the mug) measures an average 4.5" tall, with the top opening being 3.25" diameter. The Eugenes create work that is functional, such as this mug. Winton's signature handle allows the cup to be comfortably cradled in the hand. Microwave and dishwasher safe. Note: I have not photographed individual mugs. They are each unique, but similar in look and detail. Tell us if you prefer a green or blue glaze.

  • Henderson Erwin-Penland Iris Print CWP1188

For a couple of years, Charles utilized a stairwell in the building next door as his informal studio. there, he would work on his paintings as well as offer his work to the public. Sadly, the space is no longer available to him so we have brought his work into the gallery.

We like to think of Charles as our historian. He has made the surrounding buildings subjects of his art work. He paints what he sees. If there is a traffic light, a sign, or tree in front of a building - he will include it in his painting.

This is an Iris print. Erwin-Penland Advertising is located in Greenville.  14"W  x 9.75" L

PHOTOGRAPHY NOTE: I have taken the photographs with Charles's protective covering in place. This creates a bit of a challenge because of the glare.
